East Yorkshire flatlands

As I was going for a walk at RSPB Fairborne Ings I thought I would make a weekend of it and take the van down for the weekend. I booked on to a farm CL in Snaith, just south of Selby. It was a bit scruffy, not much to recommend it to be honest.

On Saturday I waited for the rain to stop, kicked my way through the feral chickens, and went to the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.

There was an exhibition of light sculpture by Anthony McCall.

In the afternoon I called in at Selby Abbey.

Sunday I made my way to RSPB Fairborne Ings and joined the Meetup group for a 7 mile walk, looping over to Castleford and back. The nature reserve is based in old minework spoil areas, and below is a memorial to miners ages from 14 to 68, who had been killed over the years.

Home sweet home

A very odd choice, but I spent the weekend in the van in Knaresborough. Angela wanted to see the place so we stayed at the C&MC site there. It was very posh, with a bistro and everything! Bus from outside the site to Kb and then on to Harrogate. Walking the towns as a tourist was very interesting.

On Sunday we went down to Wetherby, but it was freezing cold so left after lunch.

Hope is a thing with feathers

A phrase I have never understood.

A weekend away with Angela, at a CL called Farfield Farm, at Hope near Castleton. Lovely views but really overpriced. Arrived in the dark and nearly got stuck in the wrong field.

Tarka dhal is 'otter
Next day we went down for coffee and cake at a local church schoolroom, then a drive up Winnet's Pass to the Chestnut otter and owl sanctuary.

Finally, down to Castleton for a browse of the shops, followed by ham, eggs and chips. Perfect.
